Do I need to count this in the maximum snow depth?

Haha, I've seen several of those ice stalagmites this winter. We've had a much longer than normal spell of temperatures below freezing around here. My neighbor had a pretty thick one right up to the PVC. His boiler isn't running in the condensing range very often. I was about to go warn him and then we had temps above freezing. I even had a tiny one starting and my boiler never goes over 130° stack temperature except when running the indirect HWH.

Yes my sons furnace integrated humidifier drain line froze up with a huge 6" diameter stalagmite. Wish I had gotten a picture. Water all over the basement floor underneath the furnace, Line runs through crawl space and out the back as pictured. He had to pull the tube out of the PVC drain pipe and drain into a pan for a couple weeks till things thawed out. The stalagmite was too robust to try to melt or or break away. Trying to think of preventative measures for him. Insulating the PVC in the crawl space?

i did't take a picture of it a week later just before it started warming up and it melted, but the heat from the boiler melts the end so it stays that far from the vent, it was much fatter at the top from the top of it melting from the boiler exhaust and refreezing on the sides that it was when i took this picture.

Is the PVC pitched toward the outlet?

the boiler is on the other side of the wall, the lateral portion is like 18" long.

that was when I had the intake temporarily hooked up to have hot water again until i could finish

I think that can be checked more carefully. Probably has a 25' fun or so.

"fun"?

Obviously run.

oh. that was intentional because if used long sweep fittings and 45s i'd be under the mimum length in case that actually isimportant.

Nothing is that fun in his 2-3' crawl space area😅. My son should be recovered from a surgery he had now (only reason the old man was down there) so next time he can go down there and check that pitch and insulate the pipe.

oh..that was about @dabrakeman's condensate pipe.

Why didn't you do a fresh air intake?
That seems kinda crazy with an appliance that is setup for it and it's right there. What was the reasoning?
If it was mine I would've went straight out with the 45 on the end. Yeah, I know, snow etc, but 99% chance it would keep the area clear as long as it's running, and if it didn't I would.
My dad's water heater was installed with the exhaust kind of low for some reason, the guy went through 12" filled block instead of up higher through the wood sill which is really odd. But that too keeps snow cleared on it's own and he ends up with an awful lot every year.
But, he also keeps an eye on it because he's aware it could be an issue. Apparently deer very often lay in that area.

i did, as i said when i posted that, that was where i temped stuff in just enough to have hot water again. You can see the intake in the picture. I reused the hole from the old powered vent water heater for the exhaust.
i needed the required separation between the intake and the exhaust so it wouldn't suck in products of combustion and to keep all of it above the snow(although i the inspector said something like when the permit says homeowner it either is really bad or really good and didn't even look at the outside).

I saw that, and was a bit confused, but figured it had to do with something else.
I'm glad I asked.
