Living space below - roof above. Long time customer always complained that this room never heated well. And now - after they nailed the tubing - we get to see why.
No insulation in the ceiling; just that reflective paper that you see there.

8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

Someone needs to put some insulation above that tubing.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

but can you, or would it interfere with how the roof works, does it need ventilation below to not cook?

Slick patch! So few people solder any longer.

Snowmelt for the roof where it almost never snows 🤔😁 And nary a scorch mark on the wood behind the tubing👍

    Yours, Larry

ps, Maybe when they reroof, some foam board can go under a new roof deck…

The roofer was a good shot. Probably 5/8" od tubing and he got it right between the eyes. What are the chances. Dead center!!!

Or was the nail from below?

Looks like from below, like someone was trying to hang something from the joist.

The biggest favor you could do those people is to trace the pipes back to floor level, cut them and put in a panel radiator.

Then hook them up with a good insulation guy and a drywaller. Take the ceiling down and redo it.
