changing zone controllers

Options

Hey guys!

New to the forums and looking for some advice on my hydonics system. I currently have a 3 zone system, zone 1 is domestic, zone 2 and 3 are in floor zones. This is all controlled by an ilink Sp83 controller to a Visemann Boiler and 4 Grundfos pumps.

See diagram below for the wiring of the ilink controller and where I propose to move the wiring on the new controller. I want to move away from the ilink controller (https://azeltec.com/images/ilinkinstructionplus.pdf) to an HBX ZON0600 controller (https://admin.hbxcontrols.com/assets/Uploads/resources/ZON-0600-Manual-1.0.1.pdf) and I'm trying to get my head around the wiring.

In particular a couple of issues I see are:

  1. The current setup uses a Honeywell L6006 Aquastat on the tank wired to zone 1 of the ilink. The ZON0600 does not allow for an aquastat so I am wondering if I can use a thermistor instead to monitor tank temp and feed that to the aux input on the ZON0600 to call for heat.
  2. There is a system circulator option on the ilink which provides 120v to a Grundfos pump. I can't see where to get that from the ZON0600.

Thanks.

  • Your aquastat is just like a thermostat and normally, you connect these to TT on the zone control. But your control says: "The THM-0600 is the only approved thermostat to be used with the ZON-0600. Do not supply external power to the thermostat." So, I don't know if an aquastat will work with that control.

Your system pump would be wired to one of the two "Pump Outputs".

Why don't you go with a Taco or Caleffi pump or zone valve control. It seems less complicated and has DHW priority.

thx for the feedback. I'll take a look at the brands you mention. I was going with HBX as they are local to me and their controllers support wifi connections via their app. I didn't think an aquastat would work which is why I was considering using a thermistor to the aux output.

It is not real clear if the DHW connection MUST be a thermistor or if an aquastat could be connected. Do they offer the thermistor for the DHW?

The local rep or HBX directly should be able to help you.
