Pressuretrol acting up?
Removed this ptrol today on a friend's boiler to clean the pigtail. Noticed the pressure was set just over 3psi so we lowered it to 2psi (1 differential).
Now the thing keeps short cycling at 0.5psi. We tried raising the pressure back to 3, still no change.
Ideas?

Did you verify the pressuretrol is actually opening on pressure. Like 24 VAC across the pressuretrol's microswitch when the burner shuts down.

We disconnected the thermostat and the boiler is staying on.. looks like that is the problem

OK . . . That may be a problem, but it sounds like a totally different problem. One is shutting the boiler down the other is the boiler is not shutting down when it should.

Yeah. His system needs a lot of tuning. Bad traps and vent, poorly pitched rads etc.
