I've been trying to get someone in to work on my 2013 Smith G8 with the Carlin EZ Gas gun. The outfit that worked on it a few years ago came and looked last week and said they don't work on them any more. Five other companies have told me they don't work on gas guns any more. I had someone in 2 or 3 years ago and he said it was it great shape. My gas usage is up over last year, the unit sounds normal, the draft flapper is acting normal so the chimney sb fine. It might be the air shutter setting but it looks right and my combustion analyzer died last year so i don't want to mess with that setting. I'm 78 so I don't want to buy another analizer

I'm just south of Boston, anyone know someone who works on these things.

    @GW ?

    You're near a major city and there's no HVAC companies that service gas power burners? If Gary isn't near you, or available, maybe he can refer you.

    If someone doesn’t have a recommendation, I would suggest you just call Carlin technical support and ask them for someone in your area that they know

    Thanks- I’m 2 hours west. Too far for a quick visit

    gas guns- I hear you: no one wants to deal with them.

    Gas bill is up: this winter is colder than last winter for a good stretch, maybe there’s nothing wrong?

    Here in the suburbs south of Boston our oil usage is up too vs. last year. I have ecobee thermostats that keep track of boiler run times, and we're up about 17% on run time for this December vs. last December. I then checked heating degree day records, and HDD's are up about 15%. And much of our heat loss comes from convective cooling/air infiltration due to wind, which varies and isn't accounted for by HDD's. So I figure the difference between the 17% run time increase and the 15% HDD increase could be due to wind difference.

    So if your gas usage is up 15%-17%, chalk it up to weather.

    The gas bill is up 15-20% but I blamed the cold and wind for that.

    I'm seeing some soot inside the flue at the Field damper (spill switch never trips) and the CO is very high, my CO alarm is happy so it looks like it's all going up the stack.

    I finally found someone who is coming out on Tuesday morning.

    I work on them all the time. I've never heard of a shortage of people that would work on them.

    This explains why the installing company isn't working on them. They don't know what they're doing. I have many of them that I have either installed or repaired throughout New England and none of them soot up. Some were installed in 2006 be me and I have several that were much older other people installed. Make sure they give you the print out of the combustion test
