Two wire versus three wire zone valves

I regularly do maintenance for an apartment complex and most of the zone valves are three wire 1311 white Rogers Zone valves. I understand how to wire them so they open and close properly but what is the purpose of them? Why not just have a spring loaded two wire 1361 instead?
TLDR is there an advantage to a three wire zone valve compared to a two wire Zone valve?

Just a different design. That valve mechanism allows for a high Cv high flowrate.
The slow close off can help eliminate water hammer that some spring return valves experience.
