Where did the water hammer go?

Four years ago I replace my radiator air vents with Heat-Timer Vari Vents. Two years ago my one-pipe system developed a water hammer. The water hammer would start after the initial call for heat. Once the system was running a while and producing heat, the water hammer went away. Some times it was barely, barely noticeable. At the start of this year’s heating season, I replaced the Heat-Timers with Jacobus Maid-o-Mist air vents. Some of the Heat-Timers were stuck in the closed position, some in the open position. Some had some water in them. The rest were okay. With the Maid-o-Mists, the water hammer went away and I noticed the radiators heated up better. Suffice it to say, I’ll never use Heat-Timers again. So, where did the water hammer go?

    probably some combination of fast venting of the working vents and no venting of the clogged vents pushing water or condensate somewhere. heat timers vari vents vent pretty fast even on their lowest setting

    2 years ago a tested several of every vent that are used in the steam heating industry including heat timer varivents They vented well on a test jig but after 2 months of operation two of the 3 failed in the closed position. Some one on the internet [possibly here] gave an explanation as to why. I believe It had to do with a part holding the bellows in place coming loose . I do not recommend using them for radiators or anywhere else.
