for residential steam boilers up to 75,000-200,000 the boiler says 1.5 inch minimum. I see that a lot of people use 2 inch. Dos the bigger diameter pipe help with the leveling of the water in boiler.?
any other advice/advantage ?

For what it's worth, Peerless allows 1.25"

Just follow the MFG piping drawing for the minimum size.
If you have larger pipe and fittings available that is fine as well.
