Mini Split Location

I'd do the location where it says "Home" (like the other poster said).
The units have vanes and that position will get the whole space nicely. The continuous circulation from the fans are pretty awesome at creating flow that equalizes temperature.
Our setup on the first floor is less ideal than yours - more walls inbetween the areas - and still the place becomes fairly evenly cooled/heated after a few hours.
(Sorry, I misunderstood your labels, I've fixed my recco)

Follow up question for the pad. I have an 18" aluminum stand for it and wanted to pour the pad well ahead of time. Per the install manual I only need 4" clearance behind, though that seems pretty tight. I'm in New England and therefore have freeze/thaw cycles so how should I do the pad so it doesn't move/told over time?
I had a thought of drilling and putting some rebar into the side of the foundation with epoxy and to tie the slab to it, but part of me thinks that's overkill. I could also go down 4' with a concrete deck post footing and rebar that into a slab above it. Am I over complicating this and I should just do some 6" of compacted gravel under a 4" free floating slab?
