Is this a good boiler? A bit less costly than the 'name brand' units. Thanks

Looks identical to me to Crown boiler.

Crown boiler is owned by Velocity Boiler which is owned by Burnham

Crown is ok? I've done mostly Utica and Peerless with gas steam

@GW You could PM @Steamhead he would know for sure. Purepro is Webb of course. I think it is a Burnham but then so is Crown.

Its getting to be like car batteries. Theres only 2-3 companies making steam boilers left

@GW , those guys are right. It's a U.S. Boiler product, very similar to the Crown, New Yorker and Force (Ferguson house brand) units. The Burnhams are a bit different.

Should be fine. We've installed a few. Might also look at the Utica PEG-075E, also sold as the Columbia CEG-075E. These have the sight glass and controls on the left, which might work better depending on where it will be installed. My choice would be whatever fits the space better.

My choice would be anything not Burnham related.

If you're looking to keep the install economical, I'd try it out, Gary. Mad Dog

It is a nice boiler. I've installed a few. No issues.

Burnham has a bad track record with steam or water boiler failures in MA. and RI. Chlorides in the water i was told is the issue. i have seen many failures.

how is it that high chlorides only cause issues with Burnham? Do they use a different cast iron compared to other brands?

In my part of the world, queens, brooklyn, Nassau county they also have a pretty lousy track record. In my findings. The independence in particular

    @hot_rod

Has something to do with chlorides in the water. There newer Steam Max & Mega Steam are supposed to be designed to prevent this problem.

But many, many failures on their HW boilers well before there time so I am not buying this. I have seen many HW boilers that don't make 15 years.

Not really buying the new Steammax design. The underlying theory is that having pins on top of boiler sections, will cause excess heat at top of sections. Top of boiler does not have water to protect from heat. Hence, boilers will develop holes at top of sections. To resolve this issue, the Steammax does not have pins on top of boiler sections. There is one pretty big question on this underlying theory. Other steam boilers have pins at top of sections and do not have issues with premature holes at top of sections. One would think, that maybe Burnham just does not know how to properly cast their boilers sections. Maybe it's the metal quality. Maybe it's the thinner boiler sections. The independence sections are a lot narrower than the EG Weil McLain sections, for example. Maybe the actual metal is thinner. Who know??

I have no idea of what problems they have other than Burnham took over the market in my area for a long time begining in the 80s-2000s. All you herd about from other contractors and personnel experience was Burnham leakers.

Residential and commercial and hot water was almost as bad as steam. Maybe they would last 15 years. We had one school system that built a bunch of schools in the early 2000s when the town expanded. Almost all had Burnhams and and the problems started when the boilers were about 10 years old and got worse and these were hot water jobs. Long been replaced.

I don't know why anyone would consider buying their stuff.

    Peerless or Weil McLain.

Some love Burnham, Crown or Force (they are all made by Burnham) Just not me . I have seen and heard of way to many failures.

Did you see the chart above?

The Pure Pro is a "Crown" from what everyone is saying.

It's under the Burnham corporate umbrella
