Strong oil smell

I’ve been having problems with my oil burning boiler a smell like burnt rust it’s off at the moment someone is checking it out Tuesday but I’ve always also smelled like this sweet oil smell in the rooms above the room from the tank and boiler which has got so worse is really strong and I could now smell it through out house basement and main level I’ve checked all around the tank and boiler and see nothing any ideas on what this could be or anyone have anything similar

    You have probably done the right thing to call for service. I hope you get a tech that is knows something

    If your tank is indoors, it might have an air leak on the vent side piping. Hopefully the tech checking it Tuesday will be able to smell the oil smell you're smelling.

    Also, punctuation helps to make your message clearer. For instance:

    If it is a boiler ( not a furnace), The #1 strong smell condition would be a wet boiler. i.e. leaking boiler.

    The room/closet the tank sits in should also be vented to the out side . Just to air out the area .. With a open floor plan room venting did not matter .. If the tank gets closed in , like in a closet, the room needs to be vented ..
