Wind blows speace heater pilot light out
Empire DV35 35,000 direct vent natural gas space heater's pilot light is blown out by strong winds. New mv generator and gas valve. Empire tech support finally said it a problem with no solution you have to live with it and keep relighting the pilot. Empire will not recommend any kind of wind shield. Anyone run into this? Any solutions?

Hi, It looks like this heater vents through the wall with concentric venting. If so, there should be little to no pressure difference caused by wind. If there is a leak in the heat exchanger, it would throw this off. Does your heater actually vent and pull combustion air from the same place? … A fix/bandaid is to increase the size of the pilot flame, so it's harder to blow out. This would require messing with the pilot orifice. … A last thought is to block the wind. Is there any chance of adding a homemade shield to do this? Does the wind always come from the same direction? Pictures of the installation would be helpful!

As @Larry Weingarten said you could probably use a type of wind shield that is not directly attached to the flue. But if it is concentric venting you don't want to cause flue gas recirculation.
