bathroom exhaust fan in plaster ceiling

Hello, I need to install a bathroom exhaust fan in a 1959 house with ceiling cable heat and plaster walls,ceiling.Planned on using existing wiring and switch where light is. Can i cut into the plaster ceiling to fit housing of exhaust fan without damaging cable heat?

Chip the plaster away carefully with a hammer and screwdriver, if you do it in little chunks you should be able to find the resistance wire before you damage it.
Test the plaster for asbestos first since a lot of premixed plaster products from that era had asbestos in them.
