Nice Dan. Didn’t realize issue with copper and LI water. I worked for a line stopping company for 10 years and you wouldn’t believe the amount of different sizing of pipe ran into. 5” cast was not uncommon in midwest small towns for main supply. AC sizing of supply pipes sill exist in abundance. Really enjoyed seeing the old wood mains in some areas. I worked on Denver Steam and was told some of the older system was made out of battleship cannons! Since humans around always trying to figure out ways to make life a bit easier. I especially like the Briggs standard explanation. When I was a kid growing up in New England I remember road crews removing and repairing water mains in the streets that were made of wood. WOOD! Some are still in use to this day.

    Nice article. An enjoyable read.

I have heard that there was/is wooden gas piping in Boston.

I have run into 3 1/2" pipe a couple of times.

    7" only once
