Humming to Hold Music

Some manufacturers and suppliers don't have callback options when you call them and you have to wait and listen to bad, repetitive music while waiting for service or tech. support, sometimes for long minutes. One company had the local NY radio station news available and it was interesting to hear what was going on, but they - unfortunately - changed it.
I, myself wouldn't mind being on hold if they had better music; say Led Zeppelin or Allman Brothers. Even The Ramones would be OK.

most of them are imitation music generated by cisco call manager.

like the out of tune piano with a waterfall in the background.

I've noticed with manufacturers that I have to call there seem to be about 3 options total, I generally appreciate the one that puts on some sort of everyday radio music, even though I have a weird taste in music I'm just not that into listening to jazz fusion through the phone speaker

Are they generally calling you back? I had several bad experiences with this system several years ago and stopped trusting it.

You guys are reminding me why I almost never call customer service for any reason whatsoever. In my case, I would rather waste hours reading, searching the internet, testing, etc. than make that call. I do not have the patience and rarely have a good phone signal in most of the commercial boiler rooms.

I try to send a message with my problem in their ticketing system directly. It allows them to route it to the right person before the contact me and neither of us has to wait.

Not to derail, but here goes. I often use the search feature on the Xfinity email app on my computer. Been using this feature since 2000. I tried to use it at home, at the office three miles away and on my phone. None of them would let me search. I spent about an hour online searching and eventually got into a chat session with Xfinity, three times. No luck. Decided to call Xfinity as suggested after not being able to resolve it online. Waited for about ten minutes on hold (same music or musician that Alan experienced). Every five seconds they let me know my call was important, I didn't feet that important. Finally I gave in and let them call me back. Three hours later I was on a emergency job and got a call back from Xfinity. I stopped what I was doing, put them on speaker and logged into my account. They could not help me, but sent me a link that they thought might help.
After the emergency job, I clicked on the link and learned that there was a problem in "my area" with the Xfinity line and I needed to make an appointment immediately. I thought it was odd that a line problem could disable the search feature at two locations and when I was out in the field? I made the appointment through their link and asked which location had the signal/wire problem. Both my house and office in the next town have Xfinity. This took another forty minutes to find out, it was my house.
Today, I took off from work from 12-2pm and waited for the tech to come. He mentioned there was a problem with the line and fixed something outside. For the third time in seven years they changed the cable connectors and the splitter. By the way the splitter and the connectors are in a watertight box that I installed myself eight years ago. Guess what, still no search feature. By the way, I told the technician when he was leaving why I originally reached out to Xfinity, he chuckled.

I was doing some work at a police academy years ago where a tech had set up the phone system. The on hold music he programmed in was the theme from the God Father movie repeating. That music might be good for some but not there. Needless to say, the ranking police academy officer had it removed.

I must agree that there is NOTHING more aggravating than attempting to deal with Infinity on any subject. They are inhabited by a complete bunch of idiots and I really wish I could do something to tell Comcast to take their business and stick it. The cost of their services is now EQUAL TO FUEL OIL!!!!

Here's my story with the idiocy of Xfinity customer service. Several years ago a storm blew down a tree which pulled down all the cables connected to my house from the pole. I called Xfinity and told them they needed to send someone out to replace their cable.
Xfinity: First I have to ask you a few questions. Turn on your television and tell me what you see.
Me: Grey noise.
Xfinity: Now unplug the power cable to your box for 30 seconds and then plug it back in and tell me what you see.
Me: Grey noise.
Xfinity: Now, I have to check your connection and cable box.
Me: How are you going to do that with the wire connecting my house to the pole lying in my front yard?
Xfinity: Oh, I have a program on my computer which will let me do that.
At this point I have up on trying to reason with her.
Xfinity: I will call you back when I have completed the check.
Later.
Xfinity: Bad news! We have to send somebody out to your house to diagnose the problem.
They did and he replaced the wire. Sheesh!

Reminds of a vintage Holohan story:
When calling the fuel oil company's service line, you'd be put on hold listening to a local radio station.
The oil-to-gas-conversion craze was in full swing, and those waiting on hold would be often listen to local advertising that would jungle
"Oil heat's a dinosaur, dinosaur, a dinosaur!!"
And they wonder why they're not in business today.
