Megasteam combustion test location

in Oil Heating
Reading the megasteam 396 I&O manual, it is clear that the breech draft should be measured in the canopy (pressure tapping at the rear of the boiler) but its not clear if combustion gasses and stack temp should be measured in the canopy port or in the smoke pipe as is in most other cases. the gasses might not mater but I think the Temperature in the canopy would be somewhat higher than in the pipe. so those of you with more experience, how do you do it?

I take all measurements in the canopy- unless some previous "tech" has overtightened that brass plug to the point where it won't come out. And there isn't always room to drill and re-tap it………….
