Old Oil Boiler
Hello everyone can anyone help me how to adjust water in this steam system.
Some time it is busting/braking vent valves, someone told me that water is above the level. I'm afraid to touch because, the valves are old
And quick question
Does that cause the Hammering in the lines. Thank you Appreciate it

Looks like a commercial or large multi family residential boiler. Who is in charge of taking care of this beast?
EDIT: the gauge glass you are pointing to. That is showing the water level in the boiler. Is that a crack in the glass? …or is that just dirt on the inside or outside from marking it with tape of some kind?
The banging/hammer can have many causes …improper venting, pipes sagging, radiator valves partially closed, defective traps on two pipe steam systems.

Hi there
Thank you for answering, and that is dirt inside of gauge, and someone told that I need to level it to the line marketed on behind of gauge. And my question is braking vent valves, and how to level it.
It is a beast, I'm superintendent in this building I do take care of it make sure everything is running good

Look for a valve at the bottom of the LWCO.
There will be lots of water to let out in order to get that level lower.

@Emra If you are not familiar with how a steam boiler operates, you might want to take a look at the books available in the . Some are written for the non engineer. This might be a good one for you. Kind of a beginner book on steam systems. You will want to get more info as you learn how your boiler system works.

I would recommend that you call in a professional service company that does service on a boiler of that size and has insurance for the "just in case senario". This is not a boiler that a novice should be experimenting on. From the questions you are asking, I see that servicing this boiler is way above your experience level. Please call an expert before you make a mistake. Tell us where you are and we may be able to recommend a company to call for help.
