Taco I series 2 way valve
2 questions on the setup of a taco I series 2 way valve with reset control. I have used the 3 way valves before, but the supplier doesn’t have the 3 way valves in stock, but does have a 2 way valve. Looking at the installation documentation, it shows a balancing valve installed to create a pressure differential. Question 1–In the drawing it looks like a they are showing a ball valve; I always thought globe valves were the proper valve to throttle flow. Question 2–how do you determine how open/closed that bypass valve should be? This is going to be used to temper 140* water from a buffer tank to supply outdoor reset temperature water for radiant staple up with heat transfer plates.

Yes ball valves can be used to balance. They are not the friendliest to flow and adjustability is in the last 20% of the handle stroke. The B&G Circuit Setter is a ball valve, probably millions in use since the 1960's. Some suggest no more than 70- 80-% close off with a ball valve used to balance.
A flat disc globe valve isn't much better for flow, but the threaded shaft makes adjusting more accurate. Find a model with a tapered plug.
Caleffi Quicksetter is a ball style, but it does have an orifice in the middle that the gauge reads across, so a bit of engineering inside compared to a 100% ball valve.
A "real" balance valve isn't all that much expensive. Some you need a meter to read, or balance by temperature with a differential temperature head on your stick meter.
So, good best, best options.

What type of boiler feeds the buffer? If it is a non condensing type, you may want to assure it has return temperature protection. The first tekmar schematic does that with the boiler sensor.
Yes, a 2 way, three way, thermostatic, or variable speed circ can all be used for injection mixing. Additional examples in Idronics 7
