pro press on baseboard
Is it always necessary to use a stiffer fitting when pressing copper baseboard tubing? I would be doing this on baseboard that has 180 degree water. Normally I would solder this, but this is a repair in a tight location. I saw where NIBCO makes a stiffner to go over the thin wall tubing I just have not used one before. Thanks to all

it is too thin to press to without the reinforcement. you could also solder a fitting to it then press to that. probably could even solder on a npt adapter and screw a press fitting on to it.

They say not to press the thin baseboard tubing which make "M" tubing look thick. Many have done it without issue. If it was me I would solder it anyhow.

Viega and Webstone sell the fin tube stiffeners.
A lot of the plastic tubing needs stiffeners when you use compression ferrules also.

The stiffeners work, but sometimes they don't always go in the baseboard very easily. I've had to use a swage tool to expand the pipe to get the stiffener in. The sure fire way is just sweat a small section of copper in that you can press to

I unknowingly pressed together a baseboard job many years ago and it has never presented any problems. Wasn't Slant/Fin though… some other brand.

the tubing in the baseboard i used to heat my workshop in the basement is about the same thickness as the aluminum fins
