Oldest Munchkin

This is the oldest still-working Munchkin I’ve seen. It hadn’t been serviced since 2012 and when we took it apart yesterday, there were no coffee grounds; quite unusual.
It serves DHW, radiators and radiant and has the original flashing light circuit board. It needed a new inducer fan in 2012 and it was the first time the igniter and flame probe were replaced yesterday as we had to enlarge the hole in the cover for the new igniter.

is that the unit heating the water jackets in your towns backup diesel generator?

@Alan (California Radiant) Forbes - does that Munchkin typically have lower return water temperatures with long period of condensing operation?
just curious about the long life contributors.

My T-80 was installed in 2008 and is still working with the occasional F-18 Code reset.

Without knowing for sure, I'd say there are periods of condensing operation, but only when the downstairs radiant is operating. No outdoor sensor, so the upstairs radiators run at setpoint.

This boiler definitely stands out as an anomaly. It's like the guy that doesn't eat well, drinks alcohol excessively, never sees a doctor and lives into his 90's..

I did a pump swap on a system last winter with a 140k Munchkin from 10/03 that's been serving 10 small zones of baseboard in a motel-type apartment building as well as a Boiler Mate since day one. I asked the owner when the boiler was last serviced and he said "huh?". He assured me that the boiler had never been touched since install in 2003, because nobody told him that it should be serviced. I politely declined his request to service it- if it's made 20 years without being looked at, I'm not going to be the guy to open it up.

This doesn’t sound like you. Maybe you were just tired? Do you carry any Munchkin replacement parts?

I would suspect running at noncondensing temperatures all the time… but not real hot…would extend the service life since all the combustion products are going out the flue all the time. Very little to collect in the heat exchanger.

That’s one of my favorite boiler applications. the return temps from those diesels must be pretty low. What temp do you maintain in the jacket?

The polite part or the decline of service? Lol. I have never been inside a Munchkin nor do I carry any parts. I typically only service what I install, which is almost exclusively Lochinvar. Being a one man operation geared toward design and install, I avoid service as much as possible.
