Onix Tubing Repair

One of my customers is getting a solar system installed and they punctured his Onix radiant tubing. What fittings can I use to repair this, if possible? TIA

8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

They sell fittings specifically for Onix, any Watts supplier should be able to get them. A quick Google search says Supply House has them. Personally though, a regular old hardware store barbed fitting always does the trick for me.

Wow, looking at those Onix repair components—especially the connectors—I can see why I have so much trouble with radiant heat loops getting PLUGGED! Of course the lack of O2 barrier doesn't help either.

The current Onix does have an aluminum O2 barrier, much the same as PAP. Which is protected and should be more durable than an EVOH layer on the outside of heat pex.

The original Entran, Entran 2 and TwinTran did not have any barrier, basically EPDM tube. Entran 3∆ had an EVOH barrier inside. There may have been a version with a Kevlar layer at one point.

Is it in a slab? I put a heat shrink over the repair, if so.

This tubing was installed in PVC conduit from the mechanical room to the manifolds and the solar installers snagged it with a lag bolt. I've never seen tubing installed in a heavy duty conduit that way. Usually, it's just insulated.

Credit to the installer trying their very best to protect that tubing! It didn't work, but it was as good an attempt as possible

I mean steel would have done a much better job.

    Balsawool. I hate that stuff.
