New Slant Fin boiler SLANT/FIN VGH-90-CO

Slant Fin is no longer producing boilers, correct?  What are your guys’ thoughts on installing a brand new on crate SLANT/FIN VGH-90-CO 90,000 BTU boiler.  The price on it is great, but my biggest concern is parts availability in the future. Were these a decent boiler when they were produced?

I would be cautious because it is a mod con. But if the price is right you might get a decent run out of it. I think Burnham took over some of the Slant fin stuff.

Thanks @EBEBRATT-Ed, it’s going to be one mod/con or another. It’s going in my mom’s split level house, and I’ve looked at 7 ways from Sunday to run B vent for a cast iron boiler, and it’s just not feasible. It’s all mostly going to be radiant, and a basement zone on baseboard sized for 130 degree water, with a 49 gallon buffer tank

@EBEBRATT-Ed and in know we can’t talk pricing, but I found it on line and it’s in the three figures not four figures, so price wise it’s very hard to pass up

Why would you need to run B-vent? What was the old boiler venting into?

@Steamhead there was no boiler before, it had electric radiant ceilings originally, and 25 years ago the former owner put in a 90% furnace. We’re doing a major remodel, and adding the radiant on the main floors, and baseboard in the basement

If it's on a public website, you can link it.

It has fairly low DHW gpm output 2.3gpm@77f rise, so make sure it's enough. Unless you're only using the boiler side of it.

I personally wouldn't recommend it, especially if it was for someone else's house.

Or leave enough space in the near boiler piping to be able to repipe to a new unit down the road.

It certainly looks like a re-badged boiler. Baxi, NTI, Lochinvar, HTP??
It has a common Sermeta HX, common EBM processor. If you can see the inside you can sometimes identify the maker.

Looks to have a very robust control.

Can you make an offer? Certainly for under, maybe way under a grand I would go for it in a relatives home.
