Hey all, this was the apt bldg we were going to orifice but now the owner is not going for a full remodel, ie new windows, wall insulation etc. I checked the output on radiators and they are not quite big enough to derate them to 70% of edr so no go.
1st, anyone have any input on what the hb, lb & rb denote or is it inconsequential.
2nd, What are all your preferences, replace element with Barnes & Jones replacement elements or go Tunstall capsules?? Per Barnes & Jones, no new cap. remove orifice.
Thanks in advance,
Tim

B & J is excellent and So is Tunstall.  Not sure about B & G, but I know Tunstall is a small, family owned Company.  Noel Murdough (RIP) turned me on to them and Gorton #2s.  Woody Tunstall is great to deal with as is everyone that works there.  Very quick turnaround also.  I love the B & J Big Mouths so I still use them.  Can't go wrong with either company. IIRC, I did some of those with B&J as the original cap could be used.

The "L" and "R" might be left or right discharge.

The B&J catalog for Webster traps is here, scroll down to get to it:

The 712HB would be the standard pattern. Do the LB and RB traps have their discharge pipes going anywhere but down? Post pics if you can.

I ended up with Tunstall capsules and the Webster Sylphon valve rebuild kits from Tunstall. Went real smooth on appx 120 radiators or so.
  • Hi @tim smith. new to a home with steam system. I am pretty sure the trap in my house haven't been serviced in decades. I also have the 712 hb trap. Can you tell me exactly what you bough to rebuild the trap? is it the TCWW-2515 ? if so, what is the best place to buy these things? Seeing anywhere from $50 to 100+
