Angry Toilet

A ranch style home has a "low boy" toilet. It appears that every time that this toilet is flushed and begins to refill, there is a long, loud, haunting sound, about 45 seconds associated with the flushing. Help

    Can you check the pressure of the Domestic water?
    Maybe just adjusting the valve to the shutoff of the toilet may help.

    Many fill valves use a disc shaped valve.  When the valves get old and dry out they can make a racket when filling.

    Have you considered an Exorcist? I would be groaning too if everyday I had to look up at somebody's bum.

    It is either the fill valve in the toilet or the angle stop valve feeding it. I would start by replacing the fill valve as it is the easiest and less messy.. Older angle stops have a washer in them that can get loose, and cause a vibration in the piping It sounds more like you are getting the moan sound, so I would be more inclined to think it is a fill valve.

    If you have to replace the angle stop valve, use a 1/4 turn valve.

    If it is a brass fill valve i would rebuild instead of replace.

    I'd use standard globe angle stops since they are much easier to repair with what you have at home.
