Heating Pipe?

in THE MAIN WALL
In Seattle at our daughter's old condo, there is a vertical pipe in the corner of the bathroom. According to her fiancé, a worker once told him that this is a pipe installed specifically to heat the bathroom since there was not room for a radiator.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? It definitely emits a lot of heat. I thought just a riser but if so why not put it in the wall?

    yes often done to heat bathrooms and sometimes kitchens in urban areas.

    That was the standard way to heat apartment bathrooms in New York City for many years. It’s just a steam pipe, with an air vent on the top floor. Works fine and takes little space.

    No steam here just hot water. But it gets plenty hot!

    Same principle. But with steam you can do it with one pipe.
