Hi,

I have a oil burning bb14 installed back in '96, I beleive it's a 5 section per the model number and the house is a multi family. The plumber stated that it's cracked, in the third section and is leaking. He patched it up but who knows how long it will last. Winter is practically here with no boiler's in stock. This boiler also feeds a hot water storage tank so the boiler gives steam heat and hot water. Is this repairable if so is it even worth it? What would be a equivalent replacement? NYC is going minisplits but it has not been mandated yet and those systems are very expensive. Gas conversion is also a pretty penny and CONED is reluctant to even consider giving this as they are pushing for minisplits. 

One final issue, local plumbing suppliers do not have this size boiler in stock, is is possible to have one shipped and any recommendations?

    Can you post a picture of boiler from ceiling to floor including all the piping connections? Also from different positions. And perhaps a close up of the model number and rating plate (model number and rating sticker)

    Never mind. There are no boilers anywhere. Not a good time to be in the boiler business. The best you can do is keep pouring leak sealant into it until the boilers are back. You might need to wait a year of two.

    To size your boiler properly, you need to figure out the EDR of your radiators Take 2 pictures of all your steam radiators, one front and one side for each. Along with this, accurately measure the height, width and thickness of a single section for each of them if they have tubes or columns. If you have convectors, measure the convector length and thickness as well as the convector enclosure's internal height. Look for embossed writing or symbols around the tapping or on the sides of all the radiators. Make note of it. If you see a manufacturer name, this is very helpful. Also, when was your house built and are your radiators original to the house? Post all of that information up. We can try to help.
