I was asked a question and I didn’t know the answer I just wondered if anybody could identify this just curious really

    We need more context. It could be a well tank or cistern, it could be a water heater where the coil was in the boiler and it heated the tank through gravity, it could be an expansion tank.

    It looks like it has 2 try cocks so something where measuring a liquid level is needed like a well tank seems likely.

    Any piping still connected? If it is galvanize pipe it may have been for potable water. If steel pipe more likely a hydronic tank

    Is that a Pulley Block or Sheave between the tank and the vertical wood (lower right) ?
