Buderus GB142 burning up Hot surface ignitors

I replaced the hot surface ignitor about a year ago for the first time since the unit was installed back in 2010. Since then, I have had to replace it again three times. So I am getting about four months out of an ignitor.

I have serviced the unit following the manufacturer's instructions, cleaned it, and flushed it. The condensation tank has been replaced and is not clogged.

Any ideas on what could be causing these to fail?

Clean the HSI with rubbing alcohol before installing and don't touch the element. What brand--Norton? If your house voltage is too high above 125V?

I believe Buderus recommends using mineral oil, not rubbing alcohol. Quite different substances.

Don"t put your fingers on the carbide. you can create a hot spot.

Mineral oil is used to clean the heat exchanger. Homer is talking about cleaning the hsi from oil on your fingers or other ways.
