First time home owner and first time experience with steam heat!
Question: before I drain the dirty water from the boiler, do I need to 1. turn off the boiler then 2. turn off the incoming water supply to my automatic feeder?
or do I just turn off from the thermostat, leave everything else alone, and drain a 1/4 bucket?
this is probably so basic! I have a lot to learn. Thanks!

Why are you draining water? Is the level in the sight glass too high?Trying to squeeze the best out of a Weil-McLain JB-5 running a 1912 1 pipe system.0

If you have a float type low water cut off that should be flushed weekly. Other than that I wouldn't drain any water until you do summer maintenance0
