MAIN VENT Question

I have a one pipe steam. I realized that the front of the house radiators do not heat up properly. I want to replace the main air vent in my basement. How can I install it without being at the end of the pipe without the water hammering noise. I plan on using Groton #1 and Gorton #2. Can anyone please guide me to the process of this? I’d really appreciate it. Attach is the pic of my basement pipe. The one in the picture is a Hoffman 45.

If you are getting water hammering at the vent location you should fix that issue before installing the new vent. Check the pitch on all piping with a level and check the radiator pitch as well

How long is the main, and is it 2" pipe for its whole length?

The vent should be higher. However, it doesn't look like you have much room for a Gorton 2 or Bigmouth unless you can open some space between a couple joists in the ceiling.
