Honeywell RTH6580WF Thermostat Questions

I have a Honeywell RTH6580WF1001 Thermostat connected to a heat pump with backup auxiliary heating. If it's very cold outside and the heat pump is struggling to maintain the set temperature will this thermostat automatically switch over to backup heating? If so, does the thermostat display that backup heating is in use? I've looked through the manual and can't seem to find this info anywhere.

It depends on how it's wired. What name/model number of furnace and model number of outdoor unit?
    What settings?

It's all electric. The heat pump is an Air Ease 4SHP14LE124P and the air handler is an Air Ease BCS2M24V00NA1P. The prior thermostat was also a Honeywell and it would automatically switch to emergency heat when necessary. Just trfying to comfirm that the new thermostat does the same.
