    I've seen one of those. There was a grille on the open end of the draft hood so people wouldn't stick their hands in there.............

    IMO, it looks like a combination compression tank, buffer tank and primary secondary piping all in one simple package.

    someone posted one to the wall 6 months or so ago.

    It is probably 40's or 50's.

    Pretty sure that gas valve is a replacement. the compression tank acts as an air separator and a buffer tank.
