Weil McLain EG-65 original series

I have a Weil McLain EG-65 original series boiler. I believe these were made over 40 years ago. There is a rubber gasket on the clean out that is starting to leak. This requires the system to have water added every few days in the winter. I have owned the house 20 plus years and didn’t even know it had a clean out. So it’s safe to say it may never have been cleaned out in at least 30 years. The bolts that hold the metal clean out plate in place I believe are drilled and tapped. I’m afraid if I break one trying to loosen them up I will have an even bigger problem. Is it even worth trying or should I just decide to replace this old dinosaur before it fails mid winter?

Also, if anyone knows a reputable company in southern Wisconsin who might do this work I would appreciate it.

thank you

    I don't think it's a clean out.

Sounds like a blank access plate for a tankless water heater.

There is no magic to fixing this just a lot of work that may go ok or may go wrong

    You need someone with experience.

First you try penetrating oil ( I like Kroloil, you can buy it on line)

Keep soaking it day after day.

If that doesn't work, heating with a torch can help

Some say trying to tighten the bolts can help break them loose

Sometimes tapping with a hammer will help

If all this fails (and it might) you can always drill and tap.

When you put new bolts in load them up with anti seize compound (available at big box or auto parts store. and maybe use brass bolts.

    There is no magic bullet,

If you have 10 bolts your bound to have 3 or 4 will break

How rusted is the blank off plate?

The plate is in pretty bad shape.
