What about the piping underneath the floor?

I figured the cast joints in the basement would hold to allow  the valve to break free. Valve didn’t seem like brass though, kinda steely looking. Hence the big oomph

Do You Know that when in doubt about brass and iron a simple magnet will tell you whats up.
A hack saw or Sawzall sometimes work better than a wrench.

It is always a wise idea to carry a set of extra long wrench handles. That said, I would use a back-up wrench to protect the piping under the floor.

A number of years ago I wanted to replace the anode rod in my gas HWH. I got the 1-1/16' socket and a 24" breaker bar and nothing, they must buy special impact wrenches with infinite torque to use at the factory. A buddy came over and he bear hugged the tank and still nothing, we are both north of 220 pounds and have been doing 16 oz curls for a long time..

I had a couple of steel vacuum wands (over 4 ft coupled) in my infinite pile of junk so I put those on that 2 ft breaker bar and finally broke it free but I also spun the tank and my buddy a bit. Those metal vacuum wands are a lot stronger than they look. We got that rod out and spun the tank back so the piping was happy

I struggled to remove a nipple from a CI **** tee I wanted to reuse.
It came loose with a "ping" and later found the tee had been cracked.
Could not see the crack until installing the new nipple. :'(

Note: how about that auto censoring.....the tee had 3 different sizes.....thus the father was unknown. :)

they aren't that tight from the factory, they corrode in place over time. Adding some teflon tape and dope when thy are new will help a lot.

That tank is 13 years old now, I'll try and remember to put tape and dope on the new tank when the time comes.
