Will Taco Hy vent work on baseboards as an air purger?

sure, but a manual vent my be better as auto vents tend to leak at some point. Once adequately purged you should not need an auto vent on baseboard, the ongoing venting, if needed should be back at there boiler with a good central air separator.

Just a note don't use any automatic air vents with a plain steel compression tank. With a bladder expansion tank they are fine

It depends on the piping of the sys. It is possible to have negative pressure at the end of the runs in which case one may suck air into the Hy vent.

Much better to use a cheaper coin vent or Hydrostatic vent.
