Our friend @Steve Minnich wrote a new book called Hard Knocks: My Life Inside Boiler Rooms.

This book takes an in-depth look at what it takes to be a top notch, heavyweight hydronic system service technician, installer, and designer from a guy who spent nearly 40 years in the trenches. You’ll learn the proven methods of:
  • Complete Hydronic System Design
  • Radiant System Design
  • Boiler Piping Prefabrication
  • Pump Sizing
  • Manual J Load Calculations
  • Commercial CSD-1 Requirements
  • Combustion Analysis
  • Servicing Modulating Condensing Boilers
  • Control Wiring
  • Steam to Hot Water Conversion Musts
  • Steam Efficiency
  • A Unique Way to Approach Sales
  • And more!
Congratulations, Steve! I can't wait to read it.

I’m bringing this back to the top because I believe everyone can benefit from reading this book, no matter what your skill level is or how many years of experience you have.

I’m not afraid to share the mistakes I’ve made and my hope is that you will learn some things the easy way as a result of me learning many things the hard way.

I'm only half way through, but this is a wonderful book and a must-have for anyone that designs, installs or services hydronic equipment. It's full of useful tidbits that will make my job easier, especially about the electrical work that has to be done when we install a boiler.

The book also has insights into Steve's life, how he picked up this wonderful trade and how stubborn he was and the lessons he learned in order to improve himself.

    Fantastic job, Steve!
