Gas conversion of new oil boiler Crown model

Has anyone converted a new 3 pass steam boiler to gas and achieved satisfactory burn results . I've worked on many conversion setups with Weil SGO and others but not the 3 pass Crown or Megasteam . Post if you see no issues. I can only use a power burner with the existing chimney and only gas.

It can be done, but you have to use the right burner. I like the Carlin EZ-Gas. US Boiler will whine that the warranty doesn't cover conversions on these boilers, but they no longer own the boiler, do they?

The Crown or Megasteam work with a negative pressure reading in the combustion process. If your existing vent produces enough draft there should be no problem. You need to fill the chamber with as much flame as will fit without producing too much carbon or carbon monoxide. Of course do not exceed the BTU rating of the boiler. I find the Wayne burner flames are very big and hit the sidewalls before you get the full BTU in the chamber. There is usually a fine line that will work for you... depending on the boiler size

    The Wayne is a P250 or P265?

Don't use it on the MegaSteam! It cannot produce the static air pressure needed to move air through the boiler. They are not flame-retention burners either, hence the big flames.

You need a true flame-retention burner. The EZ-Gas is one such unit.

I concede to those with more experience. The Wayne burners are tough to set up if the chamber isn't big enough for the flame. When you do get it to operate safely, it may be underfired, and then there go your savings.

Has anyone here done a megasteam gas conversion? I saw a couple old threads about it.
