Steam Boiler Pressure Gauge

The Burnham boiler I have has a pressure gauge screwed directly into the side of the boiler. I've replaced it once before, but it doesn't seem accurate - it reads 2 psi after the boilers been running, even with the safety valve removed and the steam coming out there for skimming. It doesn't drop back down until cooled off. I think it's affected by temperature, maybe because it gets too much gunk in it. Would it be good to relocate it off of a pigtail? That could keep it cooler and more gunk free. Not sure I can put one directly in, may be too close to sight glass, might need to extend it a bit more.

    Just leave it there and put a tee with fittings under your pressuretrol for a low pressure 0 to 5 PSI. Worth the money.
    The existing pigtail will protect your new gauge.
    Clean the pigtail while at it.
