im thinking of doing a split loop system in my basement, i can run the return at 1" back to the boiler but it just so happens all the zones coming off the bolier circuit are 3/4, so when the 1" gets close to the boiler it would reduce down to 3/4, does this make the 1" obsolete? if it has to be 1" all the way back then i would have to cut into the 1.25 loop that comes off the boiler, alot of work! can anyone foresee a problem if i dont do this?

My 1961 house has an hydronic heating system and baseboard radiators (original). How do I tell if they are on a single loop or each radiator has supply & return piping? And how do I determine the path of hot water flow? Two bedrooms are much colder. I tried putting aluminum foil around part of another bedroom radiator — bedroom with thermostat — and now colder rooms are too warm! Does that mean bedroom with thermostat is first? Thanks
