Gluing PVC

I'm using Schedule 40 PVC for my mini boilers input and exhaust. One 90 degree for the exhaust and two for the input, should those be glued together?
Thanks

  • Yes, glue AND primer.
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab

The pipe and the fittings need to be primered and glued. Primer first then glue. It's a two step process.

Make sure you can use schedule 40, is it listed in boilers installation manual as approved. Also most manufactures want a tappered end "chamfer" on male pipe before being glued.

Also, make sure the PVC pipe you use for the exhaust is solid core pipe. It will typically have a pressure rating written on it, the cellular core will not and will state explicitly 'Not for pressure'. Its okay to use cell core on the intake, but not the exhaust. As Heathead says, make sure the boiler manufacturer approves the use of PVC for the venting system.

Thanks for all your comments. The pipe I am using is Schedule 40 ASTM D1785 which is what the manufacture specifies.
