Hi the White Rogers 668-401 has finally given up the ghost the item is discontinued. Just checking with all of you to see if I can put a Honeywell R8184G4009 that I have from another job on this burner the rest of the controls are honeywell.

It would work, but I wouldn't do it. That Honeywell, like the W-R, takes 45 seconds to stop the burner if it doesn't light- which can result in a puffback that will spread soot all over the place. You want a control whose "trial for ignition" is 15 seconds.

Is there a solenoid valve on the oil pump or line going to the burner nozzle?

As usual, Steamhead is correct! I'd like to see primary controls with less than 15 seconds TFI

Ok thank you what then would you recommend the specs on the White Rogers was 45-0-0 which is why I thought the honeywell would work the same. Faster is OK with me but will that change the operation from the old set up? Was trying to stay in the same ball Park.

No there is not a solenoid valve manual fire safety valve only at the burner and the tank. The aquastat which controls the thermostat is Honeywell L8124 if that makes any difference?

There are many oil primaries on the market. I'm comfortable with the Beckett 7505A. The 'A' is very important as it's for your burner if there is NOT, like you say a delayed oil solenoid valve. Carlin and Honeywell also offer controls with interrupted ignition and a 15 second safety. No Pre/Post purge.
I would replace the Cad Cell eye and lead wires as well. The new primary will come with crimp connectors with tails to splice the existing wires to the new control. Read the directions. Its pretty simple. Before you fire the burner, remove the Cad Cell eye, close it up and start the burner. Make sure the burner goes into safety lockout at 15 seconds or before.
BTW, the primary safety lockout on a Riello is 5 seconds. Ooooh.

You can get almost the same effect using a delayed oil valve and a 15-second control. Only gets you down to 10 seconds though, but better than 15.
