Luckily you are in the hometown of one or the great experts on this site-Steamhead.
Look in the find a contractor area here, and contact him, so he could check it over and show you how to do simple maintenance.—NBC

@pjn3 @Koan they're probably the same basic model but pjn3's has two more sections than Koan's.

Update- talked to the OP this afternoon, turns out we've worked on this system for the previous owner. It was originally a Kriebel but was converted using Trane thermostatic traps, something we've seen frequently around here. We'll get him up to speed.

@Steamhead - appreciate chatting yesterday. Attached note from our home inspection. Can you confirm these are correct locations to drain and add water back into boiler? thanks...I'll upload couple photos of boiler in next post(s)

Ah yes, the infamous 47-2 water feeder. We'll need to replace that with a 21st-century control set that tracks water usage. The report was correct as far as it goes, but there's more to it. We'll go over it when we see you.

sounds good; i'm just concerned that will need the heat/boiler running prior to when you're available. if i can limp along adding and removing water weekly, i'd feel more confident. thanks

You can. Always make sure the glass is half full when the boiler is off. Only flush out enough water from the 47-2 so it runs clear. Check it every day until we come, and call if there are any issues or questions.
