Gasket for The New Yorker Model S-114-AP

I am glad I found this forum. Thank you for offering it!

I have a New Yorker Model S-114-AP Oil Fired Boiler. It is pretty old but still works. I have a pellet stove so the boiler supplements and gives us domestic hot water.

When I had it cleaned last winter my plumber told me that I will have to address a parasitic (my name for it) leak. It is not an active leak but there is evidence of a slight leak. I have included a picture of the place it is leaking from.

I have never worked on boilers before but when talking to a friend he took a look and thought it was something we could tackle together. My plumber said that there is a gasket that needs to be replaced. He also indicated that it is possible that the water corroded or ate away at the actual boiler in which case the entire boiler would have to be replaced. I am hoping it is just a gasket job but I guess we will know when we get in there.

Can you tell me what is the name for the gasket (coil gasket maybe) and where I might be able to get it? Item number would be great. I have searched the internet without success. I ended up here and am hoping to get some help.

Thank you.

It is a tankless coil cover plate gasket for the New Yorker Model S-114-AP. You might try calling this place to see if they have it or a substitute: https://www.oswaldsupply.com/boilers-heating-supplies/domestic-hot-water/tankless-coils.html If they don't and you give them the dimensions of the cover plate and the bolt configuration, they may be able to match it for you or send you some boiler gasket material so you can make one.

Keep in mind, finding the gasket will be the easiest part of this job. I would spray the bolts every day with penetrating fluid while you're waiting for the gasket, because they aren't coming off too easily.

Personally to keep that boiler hot just for domestic hot water and supplemental heat is a huge waste of money & energy. Poor efficiency, 3 piece energy-hogging circulator, etc.

You would be better off with one of these:

Super efficient, can be converted to gas, endless hot water, hardly any standby loss.

How about one of these with an indirect water heater

Your lucky to have studs and not bolts but why bother? It's time for a new boiler.
Old vertical tube New Yorkers do make fine planters for the backyard. A bunch of different long stemmed flowers in each tube. Beautiful.
