EK system 2000 and air handlers

Does a system 2000 play well with air handlers? How does it handle the post burn heat purge to a heat zone air handler? Will the controller keep the fan running after the call for heat is satisfied?

What controls the fan now on a heat denand? Thermostat, aquastat, time delay relay?
The end cycle will also purge heat into the water heater.
A lot of thermostats allow you to adjust the anticipator if needed.

System 2000 works well with air handlers. Use 4-wire zone valves instead of the 2-wire normally used. The end switch controls the fan. Wire the t-stat to the manager and let it control things, not the air handler.

Heat is purged to the hot water tank only if that was the last active zone.

Yes it does when connected properly. You want to wire the air handler thermostat to the system manager on the boiler then use the zone valve end switch to call the air handler. That way the air handler does not get the heat call until the boiler has preheated. Then once the thermostat call is satisfied, the boiler can post purge to the air handler because the end switch holds the call to air handler until the system manager has finished post purging and the zone valve closes.

Will this lead to overheating of the zone because of small water volume?

Typically there is no problem with overheating, but you can always shorten the maximum post purge time on that zone to 5 minutes.

Small water volume, fewer BTU's so overheating is not an issue. The complaint if not wired correctly is usually the blower starts before hot water reaches the coil and when the t'stat is satisfied the blower stops while everything is still hot. This results in much lower system efficiency.

Is the post purge time controlled?

Yes, using the dip switches, purge time "energy recovery", can be set to a max of 5 minutes, or a max of 20 minutes. Each zone, and the water heater can be set independently.
EK recently came out with a revised Energy Manager with an LCD display. I haven't been able to play with one yet, but there might be other options with the new control.
