What is this pink and orange stuff in fouled oil boiler?

I'll admit it, I opened up my first old oil boiler today. What really intrigues me is the pink and orange mess at the bottom of the boiler chamber. What is that?

    That's just nasty.
What model and age is the Buderus? I've never seen that HX design.

thats just alot of neglect and in desperate need of a tune up, that thing will run so much better , so sad to see a great piece of equipment so neglected

That's definitely the product of incomplete combustion. And yes, it is the dye in the oil that turns it that color. Proper cleaning and combustion testing will get that boiler chooching again.
