Split Loop?

I have a monoflo system and I can see that it's a split loop system, but unlike the one Dan Holohan describes in his very informative book "How Come?" the supply is the one split with a 1 1/4" Y type brass fitting with integrated valves. Is this just a different way of accomplishing what he was describing in his book?
