You could cut the cold just above the tank height and dry fit a 90 on the riser and bend the flex connector down to drain.

You might have to shut the water service off at the street though, as it appears money was saved for the install. ;)

There is a ball valve on the top "hot" connection..........maybe that is actually the cold supply line???

@JUGHNE, no there is a ball valve on the cold supply as well just doesn't show up in the pic. There are a bunch of other things that need to be done to the boiler as well so I will have some time to wait. I think what I will do is cut the hot line, remove the fitting from the tapping, catch that little bit of water in a bucket, then shove a piece of 5/8 vinyl tubing into the tank down the bottom (hopefully I don't get caught on the coil, then just let the water siphon out to the floor drain while I do all the other stuff. Once its empty I will add a drain to the bottom, and the T&P to the top and button it back up.

    Wish me luck!

If you hook an air compressor to the hot outlet ,close the house supply valve, and open up a faucet, you could blow it out. Might be faster than trying to self drain it with the hose. Especially since the hose will take up most of the inside of the pipe and might not let enough air in.

I have blown out 120 gallon electrics when I didn't have a pump and no floor drain. Used a tank of nitrogen or Co2 with a regulator of course.

Worked like a charm and pretty fast

to bad someone doesn't make a piercing valve (like the old humidifier or ice maker valve) only larger of course.

Just to be used for temp draining

I have used the 3/4" PRV inlet for air, IF the tank and PRV were going to leave the building. If the tank drain worked then the hose would go out the window......if not then the cold inlet with dip tube would get most of the water out.....in that case I would use the hot inlet for air.
