I have a customer with a kitchen. Wood floor, Basement. Cast Iron Baseboard. It is cold in the winter time. OHIO. They would like radiant floor heat. I did a Heat Calc without the baseboard it is only 13K BTUs. They would also like a tankless water heater but Not necessarily essential. What would you recommend as a heat source for the kitchen? We can run pex under the floor in the basement. The minimum on the Navian is 18K BTU's.

How would staple-up tubing change that? Either way you have to overcome the R-value of the flooring (think ODR) and add insulation.

I thought mats were designed to be installed before the floor is laid.

Is the baseboard sized to the calculated heat loss? Does it have properly-sized supply and return piping? What water temperature does the system use?

simplest thing to do is run a separate zone off the existing boiler. Loop the baseboard that is there to get it out of the way.

The UltraFin product is good for that type of retrofit if the load numbers work out. No need to use a mixing valve. Of course you need access from below.
