We do not talk Price here at HH, thankfully, but we do NEED location from posters, and so many do not include it. Minot or Miami, It does make a difference. Is there a way, a Sticky, or something to get posters to include their general location so the question doesn't have to be asked every time? Thanks!

You can put it in your signature, as I do. Click on your user ID at the upper right of this page, then Edit Profile, then Signature Settings.

I think Jack meant when a new person signs up to the forum, make location a mandatory field (of course they could just type anything in the field).

Maybe a Zip code field would work (at least for US locations.)

I like the ideal also, even a basic area like NE, Intermountain, etc. You see that on E-bay a lot.

Some may be reluctant to narrow down to much for fear of sales and spammers?

I don't think it should be mandatory to display one's location. Those of us who are heating professionals obviously have a reason to, but I have no problem with people who choose to keep their location private.

Since we already have a mechanism for displaying this info- the signature field- no software changes are needed.

Mandatory doesn't get it at all. That said, how many times have you read a post from someone and they get 15 responses all asking where they are from? The current one on the $800/mo LP bill is a good example. It just makes it easier to answer a question if you know if a guy is from W PA, the Northeast Kingdom or down SWEI's way. Ask the right question, get the right answer...usually;)
  • Newcomers may want to hide their real names and locations. I've never had a problem with disclosing my name and location, although California is a big state. But I believe it's valuable to know at least where someone is located just to get an idea of what kind of winters they go through. So many threads are wasted just trying to find out where the heck these people come from just so you can give them a decent answer.

    Just my 2₵.

Optional of course. Put the right words on the signup form and it will work.

Yeah I see that thread was a hit, and run. Love those too. Probably trying to back peddle out of the sale.....
