in THE MAIN WALL
I have a 8 year old gas water heater and a 6 year old slant fin lynx condensating boiler that I'm not fond of. Would you replace the heater with a indirect or spend a couple more bucks and put in a combi unit? Thoughts? Both would take me about the same time. Thanks

    I'm a tank man, there are pros and cons to both. Tankless has more stuff, more things that can go wrong. Tank is simple as pie. I think the fuel savings topic has lost a bit of traction over the years, the tanks will certainly require a bit more fuel but we're talking tiny amounts of money.

    I really like my Navien combi. You just need to watch the minimum firing rate of the larger models of 18k btus. Tankless or indirect is a tuff question for me because you will get endless hot water either way if sized correctly. It really comes down to your budget.

    What are your hot water needs? What is the condition of the boiler? How long do you plan of being at your home?

    Two full bathrooms , laundry, etc. Boiler is good shape, little loud compared to the Naviens we install

    I would do an indirect... Standby losses are very low. More consistent hot water.

    Not familiar with the Heatmaker. Don't quote me however these HTP units may now be available with 10 to 1 turn down due to the implementation of HTP's patented Venturi system. If not they should be in the near future.

    HTP looks a nice unit. Yet again these combi units have terrible turn down ratio. I would really love to see 5k btus on the combi units.
